As mentioned in my last post, the “Cold War” is currently going on at The Keyword Academy. It’s been a week now, so here’s an update on my progress!
My goal for the challenge is 150,000 words. As of Week 1, I have a total of 5,764 words. So basically I’m pretty behind. But, this is still way more than I’m used to doing in a week, at least :D My plan is to try harder to stay on track this week, and meet my goal of 1500 words every day. On Wednesday (since that’s the only day nothing comes on TV I want to watch ;)), I’m going to try to write basically the whole day, in an effort to catch up to where I need to be. I’m not giving up yet!
As far as my other goals, I’ve worked on my novel only a couple days, and I haven’t gotten in an hour of walking any day, I don’t think. I think I was close one day. Bah. Again, will try harder this week. Also I need to start doing episode reviews of the shows I watch, so at least I can feel like I’m not completely wasting my time watching TV ;D
Happy 2011! I haven’t posted in months, which was unintentional but isn’t surprising. Since the last post, I turned 25, and I have a lot of things I want to accomplish before my next birthday. I’m not quite on track to completing those goals at the moment, but I’m working on getting there.
Last post I mentioned the “Summer Rush” going on at The Keyword Academy, where we were supposed to be getting as many words published as possible. Since then there’s been another challenge, called “Fall Frenzy,” which ended on December 31st. I didn’t do very well in either of those challenges, but tomorrow starts another one, called “The Cold War,” which runs through April 15th. And this time I’m determined to meet my goal of 150,000 words published. (TKA is having prize drawings at the end for people who publish enough, which they did last time too.)
During the 90-day challenge, I’m going to try to get into the habit of working on two of my other goals as well: finishing a novel, and getting in better shape.
So the idea is that for every day for 90 days, I will do the following:
- Write at least 1500 words for The Cold War
- Write at least 750 words for my NaNo novel
- Walk for at least an hour
The 750 word amount comes from the website 750words.com, which I found through the NaNoWriMo blog. Writing on that site is something else I will try to do every day, and some of those entries will probably double as blog posts here, since I want to update regularly during the Cold War challenge. Anyway, 750 words is a very easy number to reach for novel-writing, and if I get that amount every day by the end of the challenge I’ll have over 65,000 words, which should probably be enough to finish the first draft, or at least get very close.
Doubling that number gives me the 1500 words per day for article writing, which is equal to 5 articles of 300 words each, or fewer longer articles. Over the course of 90 days that only adds up to 135,000, but I tend to write more words than necessary. When I aimed for 1500 before I ended up with 1700, so I figure it’ll work out. And it won’t hurt to push myself a little if I’m falling behind towards the end.
So that’s the plan. I’m hoping I’ll still have time to watch my TV shows and write about them (since that was one of the main reasons I started this blog in the first place!), but we’ll see.
That’s all for now. I’ll try to post an update soon!
Ooookay so I’ve been really unproductive since the last update. I went to stay with out-of-town relatives for a week, and while there was Internet access it wasn’t quite as convenient as at home, and I ended up getting distracted reading the books I’d just gotten from the library. So, a week and three books later, I’m at pretty much the same point as last time. The keyword I was ranking at #23 for I’m now at #19 for, so that’s something at least.
Over at The Keyword Academy they’re having something called “Summer Rush,” which involved setting (and meeting) a goal for number of words published over the summer. It goes through the end of September, which is 10 days away, and I’m still way behind my tiny little goal of 50,000 words. I got a late start, but it’s still no excuse, and I plan to make up the difference before the end. I’m going to ignore my Hubpages stuff for now, and focus entirely on my site for the duel. My goal is to have 15-20 total posts up on the site in the next 10 days, as well as at least one backlink article posted a day (preferably more than that written a day, but I’ll schedule the publishing dates).
So, since I don’t really have anything to report this time, instead I’ll respond to a comment on my last update wanting more information about my keyword search. Read the rest of this entry »
The other day I finally sat down and figured out what I’m watching and when this fall. Since the premieres of most of my shows are this week, it was really about time :)
So, here’s my fall TV schedule: Read the rest of this entry »
One of the blogs I follow is Smart Passive Income, and recently on that site the creator, Pat, mentioned a “niche site duel” another blogger had challenged him to. Now, I’ve been dabbling in niche sites for about a year, but have seriously lacked the motivation to really put an effort into it. But I like challenges (…sometimes), and lately I have been trying to work a lot harder on my Internet money-making endeavors because I am desperate to not have to get a “real job.” So. Seemed like perfect timing, and Pat invited others to get involved as well, so I figured I’d give it a go :D (…..Can it still be a duel if there are more than two people?)
So in about 20 minutes is the mid-season finale of White Collar. I was totally meaning to do a review/recap of the season so far after the marathon on Friday, but as usual other stuff got in the way and I didn’t get around to it.
Which is why I will now attempt to sum up the — 6? 7? I don’t even know — episodes thus far in 10 minutes. Aaaaaaand……go!
White Collar marathon on today! I’m always up for re-watching the first season episodes :D Plus they’re replaying second-season episodes later, and since I’ve only seen those once they definitely need another viewing. I even missed a few minutes of a couple episodes, so I’m looking forward to seeing what I missed.
Going a little crazy on Twitter watching the marathon, but oh well :D I’m going to try to take some notes during the 2nd-season eps and write up a recap/review post before the summer finale next week. Totally meant to do that for the first season and never got around to it, so wish me luck this time around :D
Last night was the premiere of season 2 of Merlin on Syfy~ Last Sunday they had a marathon of season 1, which I of course watched. 13 straight hours of Merlin, it was awesome :D
The first episode of season 2, however, sucked. It had its moments — mainly a few lines from Merlin, about how he wants Arthur to see him for who he is, he does everything for Arthur and it never gets appreciated, etc. — but it’s still my least favorite episode. Arthur was just such a jerk in it, and for no apparent reason. Even my theories about him finally realizing how he feels about Merlin and having a a really bad reaction to it resulting in him treating Merlin like complete crap — even that doesn’t fully explain it, I think. First post! 20 minutes to NaNoWriMo! Having an online write-in, so can’t really write a long post at the moment. Very tired! But I will get some writing done before I go to sleep.
And I will win this year!
