Merlin on Syfy

April 3, 2010 at 4:02 pm (TV) (, )

Last night was the premiere of season 2 of Merlin on Syfy~ Last Sunday they had a marathon of season 1, which I of course watched. 13 straight hours of Merlin, it was awesome :D

The first episode of season 2, however, sucked. It had its moments — mainly a few lines from Merlin, about how he wants Arthur to see him for who he is, he does everything for Arthur and it never gets appreciated, etc. — but it’s still my least favorite episode. Arthur was just such a jerk in it, and for no apparent reason. Even my theories about him finally realizing how he feels about Merlin and having a a really bad reaction to it resulting in him treating Merlin like complete crap — even that doesn’t fully explain it, I think.

It was really like — and I think maybe I’ve read this somewhere else? — they had this episode written for the first season, and either they couldn’t fit it in or they realized to defeat the bad guy Merlin was going to have to be stronger than he was at that point in time, so they held off on the script until the second season. And didn’t bother to think about the fact that the boys have come a long way in their relationship at this point, so the whole setup was completely out of character.

Or maybe they just wanted to remind everyone what a jerk Arthur can be. But I’m sure they could have found another way to show that without him tormenting Merlin — the guy who has saved his life more than once, the guy who Arthur trusted IN THE SECOND EPISODE enough to talk to his father about something when he didn’t have proof yet. Just. Come on, writers. The relationship between Merlin and Arthur is what makes this show, and when that relationship takes a giant leap backwards for no apparent reason it makes the fangirls very sad. :(

But anyway, I’m really glad the show’s airing on Syfy now. The only show I was watching previously on the channel was Caprica (I watch Eureka and Warehouse 13, but those are off-season at the moment), but I still saw lots of commercials for Merlin. I don’t know if I ever saw the show advertised when it was airing on NBC last summer; I think the only reason I knew it was on was I read it online somewhere. So at least it’s getting the treatment it deserves now. I’ve seen some people questioning the time slot, since 10 pm is pretty late for a family-type show. I think it does seem odd, but on the other hand it means I don’t have to worry much about missing it! Plus since Psych moved to Wednesdays I haven’t had a late-Friday-night show to watch :D

Both Colin and Bradley have been interviewed recently for internet radio shows here in the U.S., which is also awesome. I haven’t had a chance to listen to the interviews yet, but when I do I’ll try to post about it. Also, with the show being on Syfy there’s a much greater chance we’ll get the cast here for conventions! It would be great to see the guys in person without having to save up for a trip to the UK.

So yay for one of my favorite shows being on TV again, and yay for more people seeing how great Colin and Bradley are ♥ Plus the box set for season 1 comes out this month, I’m pretty sure, which I’m also excited for~ I wonder what extras we’ll get? They’d better have the cast diaries on there…and the commentaries!

Sadly, season 2 was a little disappointing. But they DID rebound in season 3.

Here is my take on season 3 with lots of pics and a little wit if you are interested:

Season 2 had it’s ups and downs, I thought. A few of the episodes had some pretty awesome scenes, in my horribly biased fangirl opinion ;)

I haven’t seen all of Season 3 yet; I’m watching it as it airs on Syfy. So I won’t read that post yet since I don’t want spoilers! But I did look at some other stuff on your site, and once I’m done watching Season 3 I’ll be back to check out that post.

      Thanks for the comment!
