White Collar: Season 2 in 10 Minutes

September 7, 2010 at 8:58 pm (Recap/Review, TV) ()

So in about 20 minutes is the mid-season finale of White Collar. I was totally meaning to do a review/recap of the season so far after the marathon on Friday, but as usual other stuff got in the way and I didn’t get around to it.

Which is why I will now attempt to sum up the — 6? 7? I don’t even know — episodes thus far in 10 minutes. Aaaaaaand……go!

Okay, so this season started off with Neal back in prison ’cause of the whole plane-exploding thing. Peter managed to convince the higher-ups that they should really let him come back, and asked Mozzie to help keep an eye on Neal to make sure he doesn’t do anything stupid in his quest for revenge on whoever killed Kate.

So despite Neal being a bit less enthusiastic than before, things pretty much went back to normal. Except that Elizabeth was gone for several episodes and that kind of sucked, since besides her own awesomeness, without her around the boys’ dynamic suffers noticeably. It was quite telling — although I don’t know if the writers realized this or not — that the episode where she returns is also the one where Neal and Peter start acting the most like they did in the first season again. I don’t even remember which episode that was, but I do remember having a conversation about it with a friend so I know I’m not crazy :D

There have been some pretty awesome episodes and scenes so far this season. I can’t quite pick a favorite, although the Peter-on-the-run one was definitely up there (and I think might even be the aforementioned episode where Elizabeth returned?). I love it when the boys are proud of/impressed with each other, and that episode had quite a bit of that.

On that same note, I also love when the actors in a series quite obviously adore each other. Tim DeKay and Matt Bomer get along ridiculously well, and it shows on screen so much. They can’t even be in the same room with each other without sending little sparks flying all over the place. And the way they look at each other is just….guh. <3

Ack, running out of time! I just want to add on that last point that unless they can find another female character that has anywhere near the chemistry with Neal that he has with Peter (or Elizabeth, for that matter), I will have absolutely no interest in his romantic entanglements. I actually really liked Sara until they started getting flirty with each other. For one it just doesn’t feel right, and for two I would love for a female character to just actively dislike Neal, and not be “won over by his charm” or whatever. That “charm” is even a part of it — it seems so obvious to me that he’s just putting on anytime he’s really nice to these girls. He just wants something from them. His ease with Peter and Elizabeth (and Mozzie and June) is just so different from all of that. So that’s two requirements for me to care about a possible love interest: 1) Great chemistry, and 2)Neal actually acting real around her. Or him. Actually I’d like to put in a request for a him. (This is of course assuming Peter can’t just be the love interest, which would obviously be ideal. And I’m running out of time so I can’t elaborate on that!)

On one final note, I’m so glad Diana is back! <3 And Jones is still awesome! <3 And I have no idea what’s going to happen tonight, but I think Fowler is not as completely terrible as everyone thinks he is. He’s a jerk, obviously, but he’s working for someone, and I think there may be a reason….? I doubt he’s the one who blew up the plane, anyway.

Okay that was more than 10 minutes, but oh well, I still finished before the show started, so that’s something at least :D
